I thought this was really well done as an AU, making an utterly convincing world and fitting the team in it so well. (Aww, team!) The details are really what made this work, and as someone who has maybe dipped a toe in this world - Fort Benning in November, check - this both felt personally true to people I've known and taught me a lot.

Also, I went into it expecting G8-type protests, so when John was first in WV and confronted with what was obviously MTR I started literally freaking out to a friend over IM because I've done a lot of work in Appalachia and could rant about MTR's effects on the land and the communities forever - I find it truly *offensive* and have friends in the legal fight against it, etc - but usually nobody else has heard of it. The idea of Sateda as a dying Appalachian town and Ronon as one of the ones who stayed hit me hard and was simply heartbreaking...
