Seriously, the Kid who is Not!Jonathan-from-Buffy: at first I was all "is that maybe some weird West Country-ish thing?" and then I realized that I think he's trying to sound American? Is that why his R's are so exaggerated? It definitely came and went throughout the episode.
I liked it. Donna continues to be awesome. Martha continues to be beautiful and also far tougher than everyone ever. Though seriously, what's with the fast cuts when Donna's talking? The editing is so jumpy that I ended up thinking less "exposition" and more "Donna is secretly some sort of teleportation demon!". I don't think that's what they're going for, but seriously, editors, I like camera movement as much as the next vidder but calm down with the jump cuts. Plz. Okay.
I am Critical of Ten, as a person, and at this point think that the giant path of destruction he leaves in his wake makes his pacifist speechmaking a little hilarious, but I guess it's hard to be a pacifist on an action-oriented show. Oh well. I like the nods towards My Values, at least. I also thought the "SEE HOW MUCH THE COMPANIONS AREN'T COMPETING!" was anvilicious but completely welcome, god, Donna, way to be classy. I hope the Donna/Martha people are pleased with this episode! I hope this general tone keeps up all season.
Also, when Ten was all "it's TOUGH to be SMART" some teeny tiny part of me that is still ten years old and hates everyone who doesn't want to talk about Star Wars was all DOCTOR WHO UNDERSTANDS MY SOUL. Even though I am a grudge-holder for some of Ten's plotlines, there is still something about David Tennant playing gangly lonely smart people that makes me want to never stop hugging him.
