I love River Song. Well, I love the idea of River Song. Remember how Doctor Who-era Jack was, back in those first gleeful Moffat episodes before he became King of Whangst? How he was just this adventure-intensifier who made everything crystallize? (You know how you meet people like that in real life, when suddenly everything is way more interesting as soon as they show up?) I think part of the romance of Doctor Who is the Cinderella story - suddenly someone is going to show up in your life and things are going to be different - but I like that River might well be that person to the Doctor, who shows up in his life and just takes the whole thing over for a while. He probably needs that! But poor crotchety Eleven, no one is going to make him like it, by gum. He is not trying on the slipper and no one can make him. Except in a nonlinear way where the Prince is wearing a spacesuit and believes in open marriage.

Enh, you know what I mean.

That is all a side note, of course - this was a pretty note-perfect first half of a creepy action double-parter, complete with Moffat's favorite Scary Things, dead people talking (eugh) and things you can't see (augh). I was already completely losing my mind to fear (in chat - phnelt now has a transcript in which I type nothing but AUGH. AUGH. AUGH. over and over) by the fifteen minute mark. But it's also what I hope for from Who, which is happy people having spaceventures. I love that it's perfectly fine to ship it and you can also not ship it if you like. I love that Amy is competent but the world doesn't bend to her wills - I am good with her being a pretty okay human being who has a personality and is interesting. I was sorry that the start-of-season spoiler reel spoiled me for the excellent What Do You Never Put in a Trap speech, because I love Eleven's little speeches. He is determined! I like him just fine.

Amy/River plz, internet. In conclusion.
