1) Movie-as-interpretation-not-retelling was awesome in this one. One of the quietly eerie things about Rowling's canon is the really blurry line between things that are and things that aren't, and that's part of the theme of the way the Death Eaters are depicted - as smoke shadow real people.
2) OH MY GOD HOMAGE TO BRAZIL. That was amazing! You are amazing, movie! Come here and let me rub my face all over your pixels.
3) I loved how all the angsting in tents and wandering around was actually slow-building and established a world and an undercurrent of loss and tension. Instead of being angsting in tents.
4) Everyone's noticed how they always dress Harry in grownup clothes that are just a little big for him, right? METAPHOR.
5) Speaking of which, I honestly feel like I am going to end up screenshotting this and looking at the costumes a lot. Now that I'm trying to have Feelings about Clothes I noticed that a lot of the clothes in Harry Potter were interesting. Among other things, wasn't it kind of beating us over the head with the point that the woman who was being interrogated had her hair in Victory Rolls? But would it have been if I hadn't known that victory rolls were an explicitly patriotic World War II hairstyle?
6) Oh my god, I loved the dynamics between Our Heroes. I didn't hate Ron! Hermione had a soul! (Also, I had forgotten that she Obliviated her parents. Holy crap, In Loco Parentis, holy crap.) Harry... can live. Though man, I have seen a lot of him now. Nudity-wise.
Everything was great. I liked it a lot. Who wants to go see it next week when I'm back from vacation?
Also: dear fangirl who sat next to me in the theater with whom I talked so much that the people behind us shushed us as soon as the previews started: I liked you a lot! I was actually going to sidle up to you and go "this is a long shot, but who are you on Livejournal?" after the show. Seriously, here is my little Harry Potter missed connections. Let us nerd together!
Also: I for one felt like all the ads were all DEAR LADIES: I HEAR YOU LIKE SPACESHIPS. And that made me happy.

I do love spaceships! Thanks.

5) They were not subtle, but her hairstyle was also able to be interpreted as explicitly neat, tidy and trustworthily domestic if you were not familiar with the history.
I loved the propaganda pamphlets!
The Ministry stuff was so good! (though, oddly, the eye was less creepy in the movie than in the book)

I haven't seen the movie yet, and am basically only watching them at this point for their songvid potential, but am starting to get hopes about this one from what everyone's saying...
