So I only got as far as

26:00 ("I did it for you, in your honor" Jack nearly yells at Ten, sitting at his feet, pinned by that bespectacled gaze)

and I had to come post about how the TEN and JACK thing is knee-wobblingly intense, and also the Master / Doctor thing is very much there, which is sad because I am anti- even fictional psychopaths.

29:17: And I've been flailing about how Ten and Jack are all up in each other's personal space all episode, but then Jack says "You too, huh?" and I have to stop and extra-flail because I still can't get over the CANON canon beautiful canon! ::waltzes::

(It does not interfere with my Jack/Nine/Rose braincanon because I say it doesn't!)

32:46: Now that sounds like Torchwood. Yes! It does! No, wait, there would have to be civilian bystanders and sex with the alien psychopath for it to really sound like Torchwood, but we're getting close!

34:00 Grits joke! I officially love them forever.

35:00: NO! NOT A PARADOX MACHINE!

Okay, so: end notes:
1) I am SUPER-CONFUSED re: the plot. Also, I really don't like psychopath villians. Boo.
2) There were sure some random scenes in here! Have we been to Gallifrey in other Doctor Who series, thus making this particular flashback less random?
3) You know, I think Ten was extra pretty in this episode, and I mean that in the literal, non-stupid way. And also, with Jack, he's regained some of that hello, I am in charge of the universe air that I liked so much in Nine. And also, how much do I love the character development for the Doctor in this episode? Much!
4) Every time I hear the Torchwood theme I punch the air. I don't know why, but it makes me happy.
5) Between the really twisted Master/Doctor vibe, and Ten and Jack getting all close (and okay, Jack being Ten's coatboy, apparently that works for me) I am declaring this the most gloriously slashalicious Doctor Who episode in the history of ever. Do I have a motion to second?

Dear Russell T. Davies: I AM PLEASED.

ABSO-Freakin-LUTELY. The slash was all over the place. I am so in love with this story arc. Just everything about it. The Jack/Doctor, Martha, Doctor/Master, I even really loved Lucy Saxon and that she was in on the evil plan. They make an excellent evil couple. Also loved them bringing in Torchwood & giving an explanation why the rest of the team wasn't there instead of ignoring that they exist (Himalayas? We better see a ton of Himalaya fic soon, lol).

I AM PLEASED AS WELL.

Lucy Saxon's evilness was a very pleasant surprise. So intriguing!

I wonder if we're ever going to see, for example, the Doctor directly interact with any Torchwood Cardiff people. That would be very interesting. Also, himalayan shacks for everyone!

They have indeed been to Gallifrey in previous series, but I don't know whether seeing those would help with your flashback confusion (as I haven't seen the ep above...)

Riles, what is it going to take to get you into Doctor Who? I promise, it's probably not the Who you grew up with but lately it is so good I'm getting evangelical.

Well, that does help in that the set and outfits were very Original Trek - looking, so I'm figuring they're references to past canon.

well, my friends keep telling me they'll burn me a disk of the series, so I never bother looking for it ... but then, they're all slack friends who should not be believed. maybe i'll put the smackdown on jelly - cough up the promised Who disk or you don't get your Xena boxset back...

http://tv-links.co.uk/show.do/1/26 !

Though some people won't watch some things streaming. I won't do BSG streaming, which makes my brother nuts.

Dear Russell T. Davies: I AM PLEASED.

I'll agree there. Very pleased and excited again, I haven't felt like this sense Bad Wolf and Parting of the Ways.

Regarding the Master: does he seem a bit Nine like in his zaniness? I mean of course if Nine had been a complete homicidal psychopath.

[identity profile] sapote3.livejournal.com 2007-06-24 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
Davies always pulls off something good right at the end of the season, doesn't he?

And yes, the Master does remind me of Nine, and also, he brings out some of Nine in Ten.

Hey, we aren't set up for another regeneration, right? I am so unspoiled for this show that I don't know if there's another Doctor coming down the pipe, but now I'm worried.

[identity profile] prchung.livejournal.com 2007-06-24 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking the same thing when the Master did what he did to Ten, that a regeneration was in the waiting. But as far as I know DT is signed into the fourth series.

yeah, and I've heard other casting spoilers, so I'm sure I would have heard this one.

I suppose that makes us spoiled in its own reverse sort of way?
