You know, now that I've taken a moment (and a rewatch) to mourn the ships that I can no longer ship, I find myself becoming way more interested in Doctor/River on its own then I ever have been. I've never been particularly anti-River, but I've also not been particularly invested in her, not knowing if she's really for reals a major character or not. I would characterize my feelings towards her previously as "fond" in the American sense.

But now we know the following facts:

1) She had an epically terrible childhood and at at least one point was the creepy little girl in the horror movie.
2) She was brought up to be a superhero for the sole purpose of killing an ambiguous villain.
3) She may or may not do that (leaning towards may) but they are also in love.
4) She grows up to be badass and frankly seems fine with it all.

To me, this is interesting.
