- Helmcleaver, Thud, Terry Pratchett (Spoilers for Thud: Tries to do the right thing and fails, stops a war by telling the truth at huge personal cost, is completely ripped up by the difference between the world as observed and the world as taught, dies tragically of cognitive dissonance, OMG Helmcleaver I love you.
- Florence Banner, Tipping the Velvet, Sarah Waters (stout! self-righteous! flings herself at noble causes and is susceptible to emotional burnout! Tends to pine! Really bad at flirting! FLORENCE BANNER YOU ARE MY HERO).

I've only got two so far but they are my absolute favorites. Will continue the list hopefully as I run across people.
