So I saw the Hunger Games

Does anyone want to talk to me about Haymitch/Peeta/(Katniss) with or without parentheses because I am in, like. Physical pain over here.

Well I never saw it before and now you have impregnated my teenage murdering exploitation dystopia with so much tragedy.

See, I think timeline is key here. Haymitch/Peeta before the Quarter Quell Games is way different than post-revolution Haymitch/Peeta, but I have no idea which is worse. It's all so hard.

God, can you imagine that conversation though? Like, Peeta is basically going to Haymitch and asking him to help Peeta commit heavily stylised hyperviolent suicide. He's asking Haymitch to be so complicit in his death, which I think is a significant difference from Haymitch's currently cultivated strategy of carefully drink cushioned distance from the scared teenagers he is forced to take care of and then watch die.

Well, I mean, Katniss also did something that Haymitch couldn't even think of when she brought him home. He never managed to save a single one of his tributes, or his family. I feel like Peeta is previous, every day he is still alive is a gift and a symbol of ongoing resistance.

And he's a super acerbic dude. But I like believing that he at least understands why what Katniss did would be significant as an inspiration.
