1) Rodney is a jealous boyfriend, or: quick, insert some straightness! Though actually, no gender was specified for the scantily-clad natives, and I love this show.

2) An actual big spaceship! With ominous music!

3) ::Does not make interior-decorator jokes about John. Does not. Remains firm.::

4) Who tf are these people? The blond interrogator guy is actually kind of sympathetically nervous. Does he have a North Carolina accent? Is that why I find him sympathetic?

5) EXPOSIT LIKE THE WIND, RODNEY.

6) Do women in space not get cold? Also, poor Laryn's ship has exposed wiring all over, but she hacks into the power conduits to run her blowdryer every morning.

I kind of like her.
Also, I shouldn't be charmed when she obliquely threatens Sheppard's virtue, but I totally am.

7) Other things I shouldn't find charming involve Shep shooting people. I would have been very sad if it hadn't been set to stun, though. Also, his name is Silas. He is totally from North Carolina in Space.

8) Oh, that's smart. Irradiate the only guy with the ATA genes. Also, John is pretty crazy. He really is. He's not so much heroic as batshit insane. I got sick of them trying to sell me his insouchant disregard for his own safety bit, but at this point, it looks so crazycakes that I'm actually starting to embrace it.

9) I love that John is so gay that he doesn't think anything about grabbing her by the bra strap and hauling her into the closet. I love that she bites him. Again, I know the writing is trying to sell this as Ooo, Fiesty, but I'm kind of buying it as "Thinks John is a bastard". Also, I kind of like that she's all, "Look, my entire civilization kind of has its own priorities, and I'm not going to pause to make nice with you when their survival depends on me, got it?"

10) "If you don't make it, I'll feel responsible, and, well, I really don't need the guilt." WAY TO BE SELF-KNOWING, JOHN. I think his Soul is starting to Heal through the love of his team! (Also, are you maybe taking responsibility for getting people killed during this same episode? Go you, John! Go you.)

11) John is smart enough to see that she is smart and ruthless and thus a handy person to know, and I like that. Also, I would like the alliance scene better if there wasn't effing piano music in the background. They can hate each other and still be allies, show. For serious. And not all hate has to be Sexy Hate.

12) In fact, that's how it turns out, and Rodney is kind of an ass about it, which, yay .

Alright, so: first, there is no level of cold-hearted bitch I will not accept from a female character whose motivations are basically noble. This is a given. Second, of course this is a problematic episode on a gendered level, and I enjoy contemplating reversing the genders of all the characters and imagining how it would have gone down. Third, I don't know if the writing is really getting better or I've just decided to like this show. Possibly the latter.

BTW, the only reading of the show I can really do is through slash goggles so thick that light barely penetrates them, but also, people writing Lyran/Sheppard at this very moment? Link me up. I am predicting hot.
