Partially because I only just now finished Forest of the Dead and Midnight, and hi, I've been sleeping with my lights on. Forest of the Dead was partially scarier because I have 1) a far worse phobia of things I can hear and not see than things I can see 2) a really counter-productive habit of hiding my face / minimizing the windows when scary things happen. The end of Silence in the Library was not scary once I womaned up and watched it. It was terrifying when all I could hear was the audio track.

I really quite liked River - not loved, though I will if we ever see her again, but liked quite a lot. She was tough and interesting and - I felt like where Rose's version of True Wuv was heartbreakingly appropriate for a nineteen-year-old in love with a far older man with whom it's clearly Not Going to Work Out, and Martha's version of Pine Pine McPine was cringingly familiar as a smart, awkward girl who's got way too much going for her to be stuck pining and is still pining - but River's "hey, I have my own life, but I'm glad to see you!" was really pretty awesome, and kind of matches my definition of a Mature Approach to these sort of things. It's the romantic equivalent of Donna's "Yes, we're friends, now I'm going to go sunbathe, have fun" in Midnight.

(Everyone who's seen the season finale is probably shaking their heads at me right now. Don't spoil me! Just pity me!)

Also, the end of SitL seemed much more RTD than Moffat - because the Doctor, he sent everyone he liked to heaven, didn't he? He created a virtual plane in which there was no suffering! And then he put his preferred people there! Sigh.

While the transporter ghosts and walking skeletons and Things Moving in the Dark were flat-out terrifying, I was actually really very impressed by how Midnight accomplished a near-equal level of scary with, essentially, a one-act play with one set. I was especially impressed with how the lighting made Lesley Sharp's very harmless, very British face (I seriously thought it was Jackie Tyler for a moment there) completely terrifying. God. I am getting the shivers just thinking about it. That was an extraordinarily well-written episode. I was also glad that it wasn't Deaths on a Transportation Device again.

YES, exactly! I absolutely loved "Midnight." Definitely in the top 3 favorite eps this season.

It's definitely making me realize, though, how much of my enjoyment of other DW footage is basically "well, after I take that wildly out of context and add music, that will be cool". The unviddable good writing is throwing me for a loop!

I won't spoil you - instead I am enjoying the fact that for once everyone hasn't stopped reviewing before i've watched the eps =)

I know, I'm about to start bookmarking finale reviews before they disappear completely off my friendslist.
