Six inches of snow. In April. It happens every year, and every year we're really surprised about it.

I'm supposed to be doing schoolwork. I am. But so far this weekend I've read a lot, and made scrambled tofu (yes, I used to be a vegan, why? Stop looking at me like that!) and gone visiting. I love the rickety old houses around here that only students will live in, where everyone keeps their jackets on indoors and stands around the woodstove until the snow melts off their boots. I'm not sure I'm ready to live like that, though. I like my weatherproofed, centrally-heated dwelling, even if I keep the thermostat at approximately zero.

I did poke around with sourcing for some more vidding. I have about thirty seconds of interesting narration in my head, but the rest of the song isn't working, so I think I'm going to ditch it. Also, I'm not sure yet if I can vid Tosh at all, because have you seen how she runs in the first two episodes? For some reason, it quite bothers me. Is it just a crosscultural miscommunication, or does she really have an annoying run?

Yes, I'm judgey, and maybe losing at Reclaiming Female Characters.

Happy Easter for Easter-celebrators! I slept through church. I never sleep through church! Jesus might have risen, but I hit the snooze button. Oh well.

My weather is all bipolar. Today it snowed for 7 hours. 7 hours. Isn't it supposed to be, you know, heading AWAY from that kind of weather?
And yes, totally, Tosh runs WEIRD. really weird. So if you fail at the reclaiming, then at least we fail together.

Seriously, weather. Lately here it rains/snows only on weekends. Business days? Sixty degrees and sunny. Weekend? BRING ON THE SLEET.

::shakes fist::

Tosh has a twee run. I struggle with Tosh in general - she's so inoffensive all the time. I sort of think it would be awesome if after years of being peaceable and meek she pulled a Suzie and shot the place up. Um. Violence is never the answer, except on television?

Your icon made me giggle.

*snerk* I know it's bad form to mock your pain... but the weekend/weekday thing, you have to admit it's kind of funny. Right?

Right. And, yeah, we know that violence is not the answer. ahem. At least, I think I knew that. Actuallly, it would be interesting if Tosh did that. I nominate YOU to write the story, as I am right now struggling with the story where John and Rodney keep accidentally getting married. My life is so hard.
But seriously, if you write it, they will come (and by they I mean me)

I'm glad you liked the icon, but I can't remember who made it, so I'm hoping if it bugs them they'll tell me.

Oh, it's hilarious. My entire family is coming to town this weekend. The forecast? WINTRY MIX.

Sweet damn, do I love accidentally-married stories. Writing homicidal Tosh, on the other hand, terrifies me. I will try it! My writing is very basic, but I figure the only way anyone gets better is by flailing at a keyboard until something comes out : )

Improbable non sequiter: whenever I try to think in Captain Jack-voice, he starts to merge with Malcolm Reynolds in my head. And now my brain is full of this strange hybrid universe where Tosh & Captain Jack accidentally get married, except Captain Jack is a smuggler and Tosh is, more or less, Saffron. Unoriginal, yes, but can't you imagine Tosh getting finally fed up and throwing over computers in favor of guns and feminine wiles?

Flailing is, in fact, the only proven method of writing. It's an industry secret.

also, Firefly/Torchwood= WORLD OF YES. Except I really want Jack to end up with Mal because, in my head, it goes something like this:

Because of time jumping (but post-doctor, somehow this will work), Jack ends up in the 'verse that lines up with Firefly. His ship is broken somehow, and anyway, it wasn't really more than a transport, and it docks easily with Serenity. With his myriad of skills, he signs on to the crew. And without changing who he is fundamentally (in fact, because of his crookedness and sluttiness he saves the crew more times than can be easily counted. He turns their luck around) he is exposed to the fierce loyalty of the crew that is instilled by Mal. Since in my mind Mal and Inara are still doing their dance, Jack (he's had to drop the captain, sorry to see it go, but really? maybe it was time) decides to try for a fling; he admires the tight pants.
Mal's one of those people who grabs and holds, and he doesn't really grab lightly. Jack's initially befuddled and confused, no one's really wanted him like that; even those that are possessive... well, this is different. Then, for tension, Jack's ship gets fixed and everyone expects him to go, except maybe Mal, who might think it, but I don't think he would have took the chance if he really thought he was going to leave (part of the reason I believe he's got issues with Inara). And to everyone's surprise but the reader's, Jack decides to stay. Along the way there would be much snark and bizarre jobs.
This plot was in part inspired by the Jossverse, which is entirely fixated with the idea of home and family, the finding and the building.
Anyway, it's kinda sappy and implausible and I can't write Jack worth beans, but that's what I got.

I don't think your idea is unoriginal. And I am extremely glad someone likes the accidentally-married stories besides me, it's been worrying me. I hope you have a fun time with your family.

Hm. I rather like that plotline! But I agree that Jack is hard to write. Do you think it's because it's hard to write a Brit trying to be American?

Hee, well, as far as I've gotten with that plot is to take "Our Mrs. Reynolds" and substitute names. So it's not original yet, but maybe it'll go somewhere.

You know, I think that Whedon sense of home and family is something that's missing from Torchwood. The Torchwood team really still feel like strangers to each other to me. Maybe they'll bond in the future, or maybe that mutual distrust is just a sort classic-sci fi edginess that Davies will want to maintain. It certainly leaves a gap for fanfiction to fill in, though!

Thanks, I hope your weekend goes well too!
