I was planning to call in sick and sleep late because I was up for twenty hours yesterday, but it turns out that my body runs on electoral votes so here I am, refreshing the blogs of more sensible and currently-sleeping people. I'm still called-in-sick, though, because I want to give the people whose candidate didn't win time to get it out of their systems. And because I can. And because there were freaking birds chirping and the sun was shining this morning and I live in a blue country, and once the provisional ballots are in I might be in a blue state for the first time since Carter.

I know not everything was roses, but it's the first time there've been any roses in a long, long time, people. I was a sophomore in high school in 2000, for heaven's sakes. There's been neither peace nor prosperity nor any kind of trust in my fellow citizens for a while, and I am looking forward to the chance of seeing some of that.

ETA: Also: Bradley Effect my shiny white ass. Yay.

Oh, I think we saw it - or something like it. It just wasn't in the presidential race. It was in the Prop 8 race.

I am taking a whole day to be happy and then beginning to plan out some kind of damage control on the patches of ugliness. No offense, gk, but you might want to too. You've worked your butt off for this one.

Huh is right. Virginia voted for Obama and we voted for Bush in 2004. According to an article in the Los Angeles Times, Lyndon Johnson was the last Democrat to win in Virginia. http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-virginia29-2008oct29,0,5663800.story

Lyndon Johnson in the late '60's. Holy...I might actually be proud of my state today...

I know, I was watching y'all last night in the hopes that you'd predict our races. The world looks different this morning, huh?

I should have called in sick - I got here late, and I have the attention span of a gnat. Thankfully my boss is in an all day meeting.

I wound up stumbling in with a new haircut and my best blue dress around 1:30. (Which was, um, an hour after I said I'd be in). AWKWARD. Awkward and awesome!

Though now I am the kind of tired where I'm trying not to swivel my chair too fast because it makes my head go swimmy. I can no longer live on four hours of sleep with full efficiency! Darn!

Yay new haircut!

The inability to work on little sleep is definitely a sign of age, and it only gets worse, I am sorry to report.

I staggered in around 9:30 though I at least carried a sugary bribe. I am seriously contemplating bailing early as I am mostly drifty and unfocused.
