was that we got my mother a laptop.

I told her she should TOTALLY GO MAKE INTERNET FRIENDS now, but so far she seems content to lurk around here, which. Oh well.

But first: fandom seems pretty disability-aware, so does anyone have recommendations for a good laptop stand or setup that can be used by a person who is lying down? Does anyone have a friend of a friend who might be able to recommend one? All the ones I've seen so far seem oriented towards people who are sitting up in bed, which is not terribly useful for our purposes.

Second: my mother likes knitting, Firefly, science fiction of the fluffy kind (Mercedes Lackey, Anne McCaffrey), good design (especially spaces / homes / anything involving stainless steel and Scandinavian furniture), vegetarian cooking, and being thrifty about absolutely everything. Does anyone have any fairly friendly lj-comms I can point her to? So that she has something to look at besides my fandom lj?

This looks like the sort of thing you might want:

Thank you!

There's a particularly spectacular one on instructables made of k'nex! Maybe that is a solution, as it is scalable?

P.S. It's not an lj comm, but I gather that Ravelry is crack for knitters.

I just messaged her, and it turns out she has already scored a Ravelry membership and is frantically knit-and-purling as we speak. God, that looks like a delicious website.
