I swear this won't become a health-complaint-of-the-day blog
But it's the first day I haven't been flattened by work in weeks and I've been flattened by the grippe.

And Dear Roommate is having a large and drunken gathering in our living room in about six hours.
If anyone wants to drop me some fic recs, I will be on the couch all day and barricaded in my room all night. So they would be much appreciated. On the other hand, I hope all USians east of the Mississippi are outside enjoying this weather. It is really pretty out!
At least I'm all the way outside of the spider-bite-side-effect window now. One thing at a time! Thanks, Universe!

Here are some random fic recs; I have no idea if you've seen these before.
Theory of Acquired Characters (http://toomuchplor.livejournal.com/47420.html)
BioProf!John AU. Apparently loosely-based on Never Been Kissed, but I've never seen it, so.
Campfire Law (http://www.talkoncorners.net/day25b.htm)
Summer camp AU. Rodney the camp counselor meets John the lifeguard.
A Supermarket in California (http://taffetablue.livejournal.com/10542.html)
John ends up refurbishing a supermarket two blocks from campus, and finds that this might be home.
The Happiest Place on Earth (http://devildoll.livejournal.com/746278.html)
Now a week stretched before them in the hell on Earth that was Cocoa Beach. High school AU.
Weapons of Some Distraction (http://shrift.livejournal.com/144919.html)
Spoilers for "The Return." The phone calls kept coming at weird intervals, almost as if Rodney had written a program to randomize them. The first day it was kind of endearing. The second day John answered only when the number of Rodney's phone calls reached a prime number, and on impulse, he got on FTD and shipped Rodney a cactus for next day delivery with a note saying that plants liked it when you talked to them.
Okay, so clearly, I have an AU kink. These are all Sheppard/McKay, snagged from my "eee, cute" group of bookmarks. I hope at least some of them work for you, and, uh...yeah, SGA is totally my happy-and-escapist fandom. *g*

I did get some writing done while glued to the couch, but now I'm to the ::headdesk:: stage, so this is a welcome distraction.

Hooray for more writing! I hope those will suffice for distraction, then.

OFC. POV.
OFC POV!
Even my BROTHER knows that that's a bad thing. And yet, my keyboard keeps spitting it out.
del.icio.us! Is. Um. Delicious. I really like cute, AU, and cute AUs. I sometimes play the ridiculous pairing AU game on the bus:
John is a mermaid! Radek is a lonely fisherman!
Or:
Elizabeth Weir is a world-weary obstretician. Can Jeannie McKay, single mother, bring love back into her life?
Or, you know. Ronan/Hermiod. The Other and the Really Other.
I am kind of comforted by my lack of actual plans to write these.

I love del.icio.us for its tags. It has never been easier to browse through teeth-rottingly sappy cuteness when I'm in the mood for a pick-me-up.
Sad to say, I would probably at least skim all of these ridiculous pairings (unrepentant AU love!), so I suppose it is a good thing that I don't have the talent for working out, you know, actual plotlines and stuff.

Thank you for your confidence. I am trying not to ::headdesk:: too much about it.

There seem to be more than I intended
And you saw how my html skills did not even allow for italics, so the links will not be pretty. If you ever get tired of continually hearing from me, let me know. I will not be offended.
http://anthropomorfic.livejournal.com/5106.html
Different kinds of Magic- John's a wizard and isn't cracky and somehow manages to be beautiful
http://community.livejournal.com/undermistletoe/48389.html
Fair- John Sheppard's a fairy. A literal fairy, not the other kind.
http://www.notapainter.co.uk/mtsd/index.htm
Missed the Saturday dance- multimedia extravaganza. And I must confess that I have a weakness for this time period. I showed the Torchwood ep with the real Captain Harkness to my beloved, and before any of the delicious slashiness started, she said, "I know why you like this, it's set in the forties."
http://community.livejournal.com/sga_flashfic/151595.html
No Refunds or Exchanges- John Sheppard: mail order bride.
http://glitterati.talkoncorners.net/fiction/skyfullof.html
Sky Full Of- The Mummy Au of awesomeness.
http://liviapenn.livejournal.com/367325.html?mode=reply
Small Primes and Square Roots- Kidfic, with Rodney as an awesome parent and John as the biological father.
http://dejabu.robot-army.org/sgaroads.html
The Roads Never Lead Where They're Supposed To Go- John Sheppard's a botanist. Written for the b-movie plot challenge prompt: A brilliant geneticist plans to expose a lethal virus to every human being on the planet. Her objective: to destroy humankind in favour of her new strain of prehistoric dinosaurs. Two people stand in the way of her diabolical plan, a cynical night watchman and a lovely idealistic environmentalist. The two must overcome their differences long enough to uncover the scientist's scheme and fight her carnivorous creations in a desperate battle against the extinction of the human race.
http://lamardeuse.dreamhost.com/sg/theroadtonevada.html
The Road to Nevada- 30s AU where Rodney designs planes (planes, another total weakness of mine. This is also why WWII AUs hold so much love for me, it's too much goodness in one place.)
http://setissma.livejournal.com/502555.html
Wide Open Ocean- It's the working at the aquarium AU
http://janne-d.livejournal.com/32547.html
A Dangerous Desire- Regency AU
http://community.livejournal.com/sga_flashfic/415236.html
X- X-men AU. The powers assigned... are a stroke of genius.
http://toft-froggy.livejournal.com/190025.html
String Theory: a concerts- finally, it's the story where John's a violinist and Rodney's an agoraphobic composer.
I missed the window where you'd read them, but for later reference (and you might have read them all, I don't know)I hope you like them.
Re: There seem to be more than I intended
You've not, sadly, missed the window where I'd read them, because there are forty drunken varsity swimmers playing beer pong in my living room. I dare anyone to sleep through that.
In fact, they just started playing Jimi Hendrix, so your timing is really excellent.

Dude, my first reaction to seeing this post was ::glomps phnelt:: but I wasn't sure if you know me well enough for Internet Glomps. In summary, it makes me happy when you comment. You say nifty things! And, in this case, bring presents.
Re: There seem to be more than I intended
Dude, beer pong. Not cool.
I didn't really try to pick lesser known fics, because hey, don't argue with goodness. And also, trying to find links after you've lost them can be hell sometimes. If you do run out of fic, a)I did a SPN post. b)I can do more. My bookmarks are subdivided by genre, since I am not cool enough (read too lazy) to get a del.icio.us, so it was just easy to do all AUs. Try to survive the party happening around you, and enjoy your fic.
Re: There seem to be more than I intended
See, the hinky thing is, if they wanted to play beer pong in my living room at ten in the morning? I'd be totally okay with it. Two a.m, not so much. But my roommate has held only one large drunken shindig all year, so I'm trying to be tolerant.
I have a huge giant pile of recs now, and I'm tempted to get greedy and ask for more, but I will be good and wait until I've read through what I've got. Which, with the speed that my brain works at this time of night, will take a while.
Re: There seem to be more than I intended
You didn't ask, but I posted more SPN anyway. Just FYI. If you have brain, you should go read explain the ocean and feel fulfilled deep inside.
Re: There seem to be more than I intended
To me, fandom is just like academia, except the discussion happens more quickly, and there's spaceships and porn.
More recs! ::builds metaphorical giant pillow fortress of recs:: This is awesome.
