The first book I picked up was "The Ethnic Food Lover's Companion", and the right sentence was very, very long.
Second try: Henry's Quest by Graham Oakley, a sweet little children's book about life after the oil crash.

There are lots of pictures!

The last sentence of page 23: "They knew too that their future would be hard and that they would have to give up all their little luxuries, so they made a start by giving up emperors, generals, and ministers of state."

This may explain a great deal.

The third chapter of page 23 is about pairing wine with meat, and I'm a beer and tofu girl myself, so that was out. The chapter on Indian food was quite good, though! It's actually the textbook for a cooking class I'm taking, and it tries to summarize all the world's food regions in three hundred pages. Which is a noble undertaking, to say the least.

My university, it is a little wacky. I'm totally getting an hour of cultural arts credit for learning to make tiramisu and aloo roti.

Alas, we don't have cooking classes here. I would totally take that course. Tiramisu! And aloo roti (which I had to Google)! Do you get to make random recipes in class? *obviously has no idea about cooking classes*

Hmm, and all I get to do is...take piano next semester? (I figure I might as well get this use out of my flat-rate tuition while I'm still in college!)

We get a recipe packet to take home, and then we bring our dishes in and have a meal. So it's not actually a cooking class so much as an eating class with cooking homework. Which actually is even better.

An eating class! That is even better, yes, especially since you get credit for it. Awesome.

Yes, I suppose that's true -- I guess I've just always assumed that we have been neglected in the "interesting electives" department. Since I have never taken lessons of any kind, however, I decided to try and cultivate a talent of some sort. It's only a one-hour credit, so I just hope that I'll have the time to practice!
