There was a lot more fan in my holiday than I anticipated, mainly because between Bittorrent, Youtube, and other people's wireless networks, it is difficult to find a place where I can't drown my boredom with delicious delicious television. I was going to resolve to watch less tv this year, but I have to at least finish Due South s4. Also, I confess to the internet, I started watching Queer as Folk (US). Why? Frankly, because the internet has infected my brain to such a degree that all tv shows look slashy, and I decided it would help to watch a show where the dudes actually do get it on, a lot. I'm only four episodes in, and so far I've been too busy really really hating Brian to form any other conclusions. Everyone else hates Brian, right?
I am feeling the disadvantages of watching shows years after they aired right now.
I caught up on SGA season 3 while I was at home, which was good in a way. I have been horribly gun-shy of SGA since I read Freedom is Just Another Word by
synecdochic. It makes me feel like a twelve-year-old to admit it, but now every time I read (or even watch) SGA I get a little weebly but-their-love-was-so-beautiful about the whole thing. Silly but apparently unstoppable.
The new SGA episodes I very much don't hate. I like it when they stay in the city and snark at each other, and I really really hate episodes where they go offplanet to visit Olde-Europe-as-found-in-Busch-Gardens villages full of bustiered women. My brother calls this syndrome of mine "The Office in Space". My sister says it's a throwback to growing up with Babylon 5, where there were exactly two sets and no action sequences to speak of (besides when their one stuntman jump-spinning-kicked someone). Just forty-five minutes of well-written, well-delivered dialogue. That's what I want from a show, man.
That and attractive dude makeouts. So I will go see if QAF is done downloading yet. Why does iTunes never have these things? I would buy them, I swear, just for the convenience.

And yes, I hate Brain, too. I had to stop watching that show when I realized the central relationship really wasn't going to be the one I wanted, because I am a wuss like that.

Retcon married = totally true. The bickering makes the show for me.

Bickering is love.

As far as SGA and bickering, I actually liked McKay/Zelenka rather more than McKay/Sheppard, because the bickering is 100% geek/geek and also partially in Czech, and also Zelenka is adorable. But I have sort of bowed beneath the weight of McShep fanon, because it is just so well-written.

I do have to say that the McShep does hands down have the best writers, period. There's maybe one or two really good writers for the other pairings that I love (which, basically, consists of Rodney/anyone or Ronon/anyone but John), but there are litterally hundreds of between good and freakin' amazing McShep writers. It's awesome. Truthfully, though, I have to say that this season is so the season of Give It Up, McShep Is Canon Now.
But still! Zelenka! OMG so cute with the hair and the Czech and the bouncing and the SAVING RODNEY ALWAYS (because you know on SGA saving someone's life at your own peril if you aren't stoically brave = true love 4eva) even when he's scared out of his mind. Plus, you know, finishing each other's sentances and the sort of heart-felt goodbye speaches all the time is nothing to sneeze at.

I started out disliking Ronan quite a bit (for the same reason Sheppard sometimes grates, sometimes my tolerance for macho is lower than it should be) but he's really starting to grow on me.
Zelenka is SO BOUNCY. He is the bounciest. At this point I will read Zelenka/anybody, but
At least John is a nerd now too. Good god he is goofy.

But Ronon! Oh my sweet, baboo! I looooove Ronon! He is a giant cuddle monkey trapped in the body of THE HOTTEST MAN I HAVE EVER SEEN and handed a gun and knives. I am a sucker for the pretty, pretty boys, hence my serious addiction to Smallville before we had to break up for the sheer horribleness of the writing.
God! Absudidty Theory and The Secret Lives of Scientists are two of my favorites! I did some Zelenka recs a few months back for
I freaking love the level of nerdy they are willing to take John to these days (which is so because they have Ronon now to be the hot, manly, grunter)! Sudoku books in the bedroom! Gamer! Batman! Begging for superpowers! Whale watching picnic dates! His sheer, giddy fanboy-ness! You have to love it.

(I have an age-old compulsive-linking habit,, please excuse.)
See, other people say this about Ronan and I think "I must give him another chance. He sure is pretty." Well, at least I already like his hair.

See, with Ronon, the key here is that you have to give him time. He's been all Runner-y for years and it takes a minute to get used to human contact again. But he's cute and cuddly and I love him and his weapons. Plus there is the joy of imagining his backstory. :*giggle* I am shallow, what can I say?
