1) Man, was there a lot of gore in this. I suppose that makes sense: if Torchwood is supposed to be the Welsh X-files, back it its day the X-files was one of the most violent shows on television. The X-files looks quite quaint now, doesn't it?

2) Yes, I do remember that two episodes ago Owen and Gwen made out (on a drawer in the morgue! How delightfully morbid!) but given that two episodes before that Gwen was making out with Alien Nymphomaniac Girl, I sort of assumed that Gwen was going to snog everyone, feel a little guilty, and get on with her life. I don't really feel like Owen's little fixation with Gwen was a symptom of rising sexual tension; in fact, I thought it was a symptom of

3) Owen being a creep. Yes, yes he is. He is wierd and creepy. I understand that we're supposed to suspect a heart of gold under his crass exterior, and I understand Gwen's reasons for sleeping with him, but really in my opinion he comes off as a coworker-molesting asshole.

I like how Gwen's "normal life" relationships are starting to unravel; I wish it had taken a bit longer, built up a bit more tension. Also, I think the Tosh/Owen vibe is interesting, but Owen and the captain also have an interesting thing going on that could contribute intriguingly to the Pansexual Polyamory Angst Implosion.

(My favorite Cap'n/Owen moment so far: Day One (e2), where the captain says "Strip clubs, brothels - anywhere there's desperate men." the smirk he levels at Owen is way past what we usually call eyefucking. It is eye-"in about forty seconds we really will be fucking, this is not even subtext." It brings me glee.)

This episode marks the point at which Eve Myles really starts hitting the gym, which sort of bums me out. Gwen will always be heartbreakingly pretty, of course, but if she keeps it up soon she'll be a heartbreakingly pretty lady with an unnaturally flat butt, and then I will have to like her for her personality.

Incidentally, even though the upshot of this episode was that rural Welsh people want to kill you and eat you, the Welsh countryside is also heartbreakingly pretty. The colors in this episode were amazing.

4) The last bit of plot commentary: so the crazy cannabalistic Welsh rednecks were not aliens, or possessed by aliens, but were just your average crew of psychopaths in cable-knit sweaters? Does this mean the Rift is like the Hellmouth, and makes everyone around it eviler, or are we supposed to be left contemplating the hidden darknesses of the human spirit? I'm confused.
