1) I bought alcohol for the first time in the U.S. And I only bought it because we needed it for the Sapote Household Harry Potter-book premiere butterbeer. (Recipe: condensed milk, whipping cream, ginger ale, cream soda, cinnamon, rum. Whisked until slightly frothy. Really, really tasty)

2) I am supposed to be at work, oh wait, now, but I have to hang around until the Aleve kicks in, because the barometer that is the entire inside of my head is telling me that we're in a low-pressure front. Maybe I can fine-tune this skill and use it to get by after the oil crash?

3) Is it bad that I am far less distressed about the parts of Son of Strikethrough 2007 that have to do with fanfic than the parts about not encouraging illegal activities, or, you know, calling for presidential assassinations? I mean, I'm not down with internet death threats from anyone to anyone, I think they should be responded to seriously, and I realize LJ is playing CYA so they don't have to help the Secret Service track people down. But I feel creepy having special, president-only rules.

And that is as upset as I get about it. Yes, we should all be backing up our ljs, staking out alternate hosting sites, etc, but I think that's just good general practice. I am excited about the idea of a fandom-only locale. Though isn't that what Journalfen is for? Didn't we already do this once?

4) OMG Harry Potter OMG. To be honest I am not so excited about it for itself as I am excited about the End of an Era. Ten years, y'all. I have siblings that essentially learned to read on those books. Man, I love Final Installments. I will probably be posting directly after stumbling home from the bookstore at 4 a.m, just to say that I have the book! in my hands!

Have a lovely Harry Potter Book Day, all!

You shouldn't worry about the president stuff. Federal law already has specific provisions about threats against the prez; it's part of the LJ policy where they actually do appear to be taking their cues from federal law and following it.

I know, and it's not like I'm going to flounce over to GreatestJournal for no other reason than I can't threaten to kill the president. It's just that saying crazy-ass nonsense about political figures is my favorite part of free speech, and even though I think Killing People (/ discussing killing people) Is Bad, I also think it's wacky that the Secret Service is going to come after you for saying it without any other kind of intent.

I'm going to stop there, because, whoa, there are much more worrisome things to do with the executive branch today. Wow.

Damn, that drink sounds good! I think I should have a go at it! Any guideline on how many parts of each to add?

We were putting about two tablespoons of evaporated milk and one of whipping cream in a two-mug portion, and then finishing out the rest with half cream soda, half ginger ale. The rum is up to your own discretion *g*

Your butterbeer recipe sounds even tastier than the one I acquired (butterscotch schnapps and creme soda). I shall have to try them both!

Harry Potter, OMG.

There can never be enough butterbeer variations! My roommate and I have already done several test runs.

*hic*

OMG HARRY POTTER I have spent the whole day grinning so hard.

Your dedication to butterbeer R&D is admirable.

The one I found is here, along with many tasty things: http://www.britta.com/hogwarts/recipes.html

I am so torn: I have no time to make festive celebratory food until I already have the book in hand. And then it just seems like poor time management.

Ooo, I will have to try the butterbeer recipe sometime.
