1. Deaton has been Scott's boss for a while and has a pretty good sense of him as a person.

2. Derek was a sketchball and failed to earn Scott's trust a long time before Scott sold him out to Gerard. Derek sided with Peter (understandably!) while Peter was threatening Scott, Allison, and Scott's mother. And all Scott wanted was to be a human again, which Derek made impossible forever so that Derek could be Alpha. I don't think we ever cover that Scott's, you know, UPSET about that. I always identified that as "werewolf problems are different than human problems", with a side of "maybe Derek wasn't just power-hungry, he also couldn't stand seeing the pack lineage end forever", but I still think Scott's got the right to be pissed.

3. Given the body count a bad alpha werewolf can rack up, I think Dr. Deaton's got a right to pick sides and not give Wizard Help to werewolves he doesn't like. And he doesn't like Derek; I almost think (given that he has the right to be a morally neutral actor here same as everyone else) that he's kind of giving Derek a halfassed chance in deference to the memory of his sister, but after that he might honestly pick sides, and not put Derek on his side.

I think it's fucking tragic that Derek doesn't think he deserves or can give trust, and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy in which he can't get what he wants because he thinks of himself as an untrustworthy dude and then he acts like one and then people don't trust him and then he responds to that by pulling in or lashing out and makes it worse. I think that's awesome from a character standpoint, for all that it makes me want to, as hellotailor said, stand on a chair while my room fills with tears because for all my Derek-is-a-villaining I KIND OF LOVE HIM.

I do think that Scott is also a teenage dumbass who thinks adults exist to bail him out of bad situations (developmentally appropriate, but also exasperating) who is probably just now realizing that he did, in fact, trust Derek exactly enough to think Derek would show up and save him. But because I'm having a nice time thinking poorly of Derek, I'm not even sure he owes Derek an apology for that until they've already talked out the whole "trapped me in this werewolf life for selfish reasons" deal.

FEELINGS THAT NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR.
