And yeah, when I was growing up, even if you wanted to go to, say, Albuquerque which was "only" about 80 mi away, you needed a car, not only because there was just shitty Greyhound and the pricey airport shuttle back then, but because you just can't get through that terrain with nothing but a bike and what you can carry on it. I mean I guess you can if you're one of those long-distance endurance sport types, but they're also going to collapse when they get to the destination and that assumes nothing's going to be trying to pick them off on the way there.
(And OMG it looked like you could barely hope to survive those giant fucking dust storms, did they just roam the earth? or strike unpredictably? even in a BIG fortified car, Jesus)
