Okay, re: the adult content flagging thing - yeah, censorship, problematic, likely to be abused, &c, &c - but seriously, isn't lying on an adult content clickthrough a major part of modern adolescence? Heck, Scarleteen got its start as an alternative to the practice of linking the "I am NOT eighteen or older" button to disney.com.

If you're not logged in, it looks like lj will offer you a classic "I testify that I am of age to read this material" clickthrough. You may have to submit your date of birth. Personally, those make me feel nostalgic for the days when I would swear up and down that I was born in 1971. And that brings up another point: when I first got into fandom, most adult content hosted on personal websites and fan archives had adult content clickthroughs. When we moved to lj, I kind of missed them.

That is all.

Nope, just the clickthrough (I tested).

I think if you're logged in and your account doesn't have a DOB, then you may have to submit one.

Yep, I finally tested it. Most of the flist comes up as "adult content", I think people are voluntarily tagging their whole journals. Which is kind of a shame, because I was thinking about setting up an account that filters out adult content to read at work.

The only thing that really bugs me about this is that if you're browsing without being logged in, even after you submit your DOB, it still has posts/journals that have been labeled as "adult content" cut-tagged with "You are about to view content that may not be appropriate for minors." I may have...accidentally spoiled myself clicking on one of those (I had no idea what would be underneath!).

Yeah, that's a problem. I've been sending politely-worded suggestions to lj-support about this stuff (wouldn't it be better if clicking the "adult content" tag took you to the post with its cut-tags closed?). Hopefully they will listen?

Politely-worded suggestions are good! I guess it's because you only have to click to confirm that you are older than 14, and the adult content stuff is rated higher? But since they obviously can keep track of whether you've clicked through or not (because you don't have to confirm again), it shouldn't be that much of a problem to allow browsing for adults. *goes to prod lj-support* :D

"I really don't think Concerned Religious Parents want a line of "NC-17, GOD/SATAN, RIMMING, FISTING, BONDAGE" outside of the age check."

ROFL that made my day. Thank you.

The distressing thing is, I was going to make it NC-17 Bush/Cheney action, and then I decided that God/Satan was a less upsetting mental image.

My values may be a little skewed.

Ohmygod... XD That made me choke on my tea.

You reminded me of this (http://ubergoth.net/sims/bushkerry/) site. Except the couple is Bush Sim and Kerry Sim...
but Cheney makes an appearance as well.

I hope you don't mind me browsing through your journal. You are delightful,
and I want to see what else you have to say. And you're a Doctor Who and SGA
fan, so that gives you major points right off...

Oh god, I'd forgotten about the Bush/Kerry sims. It is a little disturbing!

Thank you, and please, pull up a chair! And yes, I am very fond of both Who and SGA. Dorky space travelers ftw.
