First, THANK YOU, [livejournal.com profile] rilestar! I am a paid user again! I do not even know what one does with so many usericons, but I am going to find out! I am superexcited, and also v. grateful. ::twirls rilestar::

On a related note, is anyone else watching the scifi channel Stargate marathons? I'd forgotten how weird it is to watch tv shows that I can't pause or rewind, with ad breaks. Ads = profoundly annoying. I think if I ever go legit it will be with netflixs. But it is nice to actually get cozy with some SGA canon again. It's weird. It's like watching people's user icons come to life.

Final note: my mother is going into the hospital for a thing tomorrow (I have been trying to figure out how to describe this here, and here's what I've got: "not terrifying, but pretty hardcore"). All good thoughts and prayers in that direction are very welcome.

In conclusion, I may or may not be offline for a bit (indications are 'not'), but I do want to wish everyone a very happy holiday-of-choice and a happy 2008! Take care and safe travels.

Good thoughts for your mom are headed your way.

*agrees* Life would be better without commercials.

Thanks! She is home now, and feeling better. I really appreciate everyone's good wishes.

And yes, ads are the suck. Though partially, I blame the designers. There are ads that are pretty and nice to look at, and I care less than I should that they are subtly reprogramming my brain to prefer Honda. The obnoxious slurry of fear-mongering and shouting car salesmen that you get on normal tv are pretty fail, however.

*adds to the good thoughts for your mother*

I'd forgotten how weird it is to watch tv shows that I can't pause or rewind, with ad breaks.

I realized recently that I don't think I've actually switched on my TV for more than a year. There wasn't anything on that justified the effort of turning it on (which, admittedly, means standing on the kitchen counter -- don't ask), and if I want to watch something, my computer has a better screen, and I can watch what I want when I want.

thanks so much! She is home now, and feeling better.

... You have a ceiling-mounted tv? And yes, we actually do have a tv in my student apartment, but we haven't plugged it in since we moved in - and we both follow a lot of shows. I note these things because man, are we ever in the middle of a massive shift in how people consume media. *g* It's v. exciting.

Good thoughts coming your way. Hope your holiday is as happy and relaxed as can be.

Thank you so much! She is home and feeling much better. We have mainly compensated by not doing much, holiday-wise: there may be a Christmas Dinner frozen pizza in our future, which, to be frank, I'm fine with. Today I am expected to produce some cookies, though, so here's hoping that doesn't end in fire or other disaster *g*.

Totally crossing fingers and sending hope re: the mom thing.

It's like watching people's user icons come to life. Might just be the best description of TV ever. (It was also my thought upon watching the "Another Sunday" vid last night.)

Seriously, it was disorienting. Most of the people in question have changed their default icons to non-SGA recently, too, but I somehow kept expecting that one shot of John to be followed by, you know, something about [livejournal.com profile] seperis, and that angle of Rodney to signify that [livejournal.com profile] resonant8 was on the scene. It was kind of disappointing?

I love that vid. So much. I can only watch it every so often, because otherwise the joy might completely overwhelm my system.

Thanks so much for the good thoughts (and distracting pudding talk).

Again, you are very welcome :-)

I'd forgotten how weird it is to watch tv shows that I can't pause or rewind, with ad breaks. I actually turned on the telly the other day! And watched 45 minutes of The Simpsons/Futurama re-runs. It's funny, after it was over I realised I had no memory of the ad breaks. I must have totally tuned them out.

Ha! So true ... what does this say about us???

And I'll be definitely thinking good thoughts for your ma. Hope everything goes well.

PS: My boss has been walking around the office in my Daniel Boone hat. And everyone loves the squirrel - who has the unfortunate name of "Buttfinger". Did I tell you - depending on what side of his face you look at, he either looks cute & friendly, or psychotically murderous. Heh.

thanks for the good thoughts - she is fully up and about right now, having finally shaken off the last of the various hospital meds. I really appreciate the note.

On a lighter note, BUTTFINGER. That is beautiful. And I totally did not catch on to his split personality before I mailed him - I thought perhaps he looked meek? Little did I know what lurked in Buttfinger's soul -

Also, re: the hat ::nudges:: check out the town on the return address. Kind of a big deal, for some reason that has to do with the guy setting foot in the county once or something. I am glad someone got the reference! I imagine there aren't raccoons in Australia - they are clever, and also obnoxious. They have opposable thumbs! I am a fan.

On a related note, is anyone else watching the scifi channel Stargate marathons?

Always do. Thankfully the Christmas Eve marathon will include some 4th season eps because I have seen the first season on marathon A WHOLE LOTTA TIMES.

And I guess you don't have TiVo? TiVo = No commercials :)
Monday, December 24th, 2007 12:52 pm (UTC)
::nods:: I am going to try to watch today's marathon, though I don't know if I'll make it.

You have to have cable or something for TiVo, right? And the TiVo subscription costs money? I don't have cable at my own home, and I worked it out once and it was close enough to what I pay in apartment rent that I didn't go for it, but people who have it tell me it's wonderful.
Monday, December 24th, 2007 03:37 pm (UTC)
Okay, so I got mixed up and the only 4th season ep today is Miller's Crossing, but the January 4th marathon is the 4th season eps. Either way, MORE SGA :P

And you don't have to have cable for TiVo. One of my friends has it just off antenna. I have it along with my satellite. It's only about $12/month and very VERY worth it.
