I am sliding in right under the wire with Fanworks Year in Review. I'm actually four days past my livejournal's first birthday, so this will be Everything I've Ever Written/Vidded Ever - with commentary. Whee!
You know, I've only been actively in fandom for a year, and I'm probably still in my honeymoon phase, but: I have met awesome people this year, and ::twirls you all:: &hearts And I have read amazing stories, and seen amazing art, and listened to fan music in fan languages and - &hearts &hearts &hearts.
So anyway, here's what
January
After Hours, Buffy/Faith, NC-17, written on Jan. 15 for
oxoneinsis's New Years porn battle. I wrote this at three a.m. after an all-night comment-fic binge, and then I kind of hid, because I had never written porn before, and I'd sure never posted fanfic before.
I got four comments, which pretty much set my expectations for feedback at that point.

Backdrifters, vid, season 1 of Torchwood.
I started watching Torchwood because I got fed up with shows where my OTP never ever got together (I tried Queer as Folk, but my OTP still never got together, damn you, Brian Kinney). In Torchwood, everybody gets together. At this point, episode 12 was all over the internet, so I opened up a timeline and started laying clips I thought were pretty.
I am still very fond of this vid. I totally had a crush on Gwen when I made this, and I think it shows. There were some technical bits that I wish I'd known how to fix at the time, but, among other things, I still like a lot of the symbolism. And of Team Torchwood's angstangstangst. I could write a long commentary on what I meant by this vid, but that seems like cheating *g*
April
Bittersweet, SGA vidlet, about Jeannie McKay. Made for
rat_jam April 1 2007.
This is the only vid I've made with a commercial program so far - I made it with a free trial of Ulead, which is not my favorite program ever but does produce an attractive finished product. I made this in about eighteen hours, as part of a raucously fun rat_jam weekend, and while it's meant as a little hit of commentary, I am pleased with some of the movement in it, especially the BAM moment at 0:45. I was just learning how music and movement go together, and here was where I learned that a BAM moment is pretty much just something that flashes and booms at the same time and causes a startle reflex.
After this my trial was up and I went back to Debugmode Wax, which I am learning to love. I think.
Panthalassa, SGA, McKay/Cadman, McKay/Sheppard, R. April 15.
I sat on this story (and rewrote, and rewrote, and rewrote) for about seven weeks, and I was terrified when I posted it. My goal was four pieces of positive feedback. And then there was this kind of BOOM noise, and I met just about all of you.
To be honest, it was kind of terrifying, but in a nice way.
I still love this story, and this AU, and am pretty put-out that I have been jossed a HUNDRED THOUSAND TIMES for every single aspect of the sequels I was going to write. I still have some huge gdocs of sequels kicking around, except they're mostly plotless and I'm leery of OCs. Maybe some day, as an experiment in reminiscence, and secure in the knowledge that most of the fandom has moved on to AUs where John is a stork and Rodney is a hippo and they cavort amidst the papyrus reeds. (SGA fandom, you know I love you).
May
Dances With Aliens and Untitled Snippet, two Doctor/Rose bits that I wrote in those first, innocent days of Whowatching, back before I was actually exposed to the Who fandom. May 19/21st.
The One Where They're Antiglobalization Protesters, SGA, PG-13, AU, McKay/Sheppard. May 20th. This is where I learned that I am not the only fangirl with politics (what? I was new to the internet, kind of!), which is probably when I fell hard for SGA fandom, because geek + politics = hot.
Storywise, I didn't get Ronon very right (I didn't have a handle on him until season 4), but I was pleased with the other characters. And I got made fanart, which is totally on my kitchen wall.
June
Both Hands, a Nine/Rose and Ten/Rose fanvid, though: confession: I also intended it to be a Doctor/Rose/TARDIS breakup vid, it's just really hard to vid for the TARDIS. Basically, Doomsday tore a gaping hole in my heart, and every time I started thinking about the episode I got this song in my head, so I made the vid in order to Gain Closure.
I made this in a week, and posted fast before I left town, and the files were burned on a cd and got deleted from my harddrive, and then the cd turned out to be corrupt. So I can't fix the stray frames in this easily, which plagues me to no end. Again, I meant a lot in this vid, not all of which I think got communicated. Here I think I will make a commentary at some point, whether I put it online or no, because it's easy to forget, given the state of the fandom, just how Sincere I was about it all when I made the vid.
July - I was apparently working full-time and didn't get anything written. Huh.
August
Podfic of The New Atlantean Dictionary of Literary Terms by
thingswithwings, mostly notable because the original story is amazing and I have three thousand outtakes of me trying to read all the dirty bits first (to make sure I could) and breaking down giggling at the word "harness". Good times. (August 4th)
Topothesia, NC-17, Ten/Companion, August 8. Smutty; at the time, I was half writing Rose, and half writing Martha, which may be a flaw or an interesting quirk, and anyway, I was interested by the chance that to the Doctor companions were interchangeable as guppies. This was clearly before Season 3 really got going. Rereading, I quite like this story, though it starts porny and ends sad, which is an interesting combination.
Counting to Nine, Nine/Jack/Rose, NC-17, August 19. Written late at night; this is pretty much my OT3 forever, so I wrote them some porn.
Ladytron, a vid in which I strongly insinuate that the Doctor and his Tardis are more than friends. Posted August 25. There are many favorite moments in here, and many moments that I don't think worked. Everyone always seems to laugh on 0:22; I have always loved 0:39. That whole middle oboe part, I was trying to vid Tardis POV, and that didn't work as well as I'd hoped, but as far as I'm concerned, 1:32 onward is hot Timelord-on-TARDIS action, and it makes me really happy.
---
In September I tried my hand at some Due South, but that's not online right now; in November I wrote half a novel and then got mired in John Sheppard's psychology. I've got four vids in progress, two epic and many small fics in progress, and my goal for the New Year is to post anything, ever again, especially at least two of my Big AUs. Also, to vid Torchwood Season 2, because it will probably be ridiculous and also deeply pretty.
