It is really hard not to post big wanky capslock rants about the OTW drama.
I like OTW.
I would give them money if I had it. As is, I am planning to benefit, leech-like, from their hard work.

And - the thing I love best about fandom is how I get to feel perfectly normal for having two x chromosomes and liking spaceships at the same time. I'm not an exception. I'm not part of a freaky minority. I am pretty much like everyone else. I'm not expected to measure my behavior to the standards of male nerds, even. And I don't get harassed.

Nerdy girls, I think you all know what I'm talking about. It's nice not to be strange, or tolerated as an exception. And it's really damn nice not to have to dance for the approval of geekboys. If someone is female and perfectly happy on 4chan, I mean, more power to them, but that's not me.

Female-centered does not mean male-hostile, ad infinitum, headdesk headdesk headdesk. And with that, I stop clicking on discussion links about OTW, unless they're from OTW.

I have only the vaguest inkling about the whol OTW thingy. I know what they are, and that ppl are arguing about them for various reasons - everyone wants something different and so on. I've kept way out of it, because i suspect it would annoy me; personally i give them credit for having done something, rather than just sitting around bitching about LJ for example like many fen still do.

Keeping way out of it is incredibly wise for everyone who's not volunteering, I think. Because I seem to spend a lot of time headdesking right now.

Things that don't make me headdesk include your icon, which is adorable.

Fucking WORD, dude.

We're male-hostile for...noticing we have made a space where, historically, not many boys want to hang out anyway? *headdesk*

And it's really damn nice not to have to dance for the approval of geekboys.

I am lucky enough to have a nerdy girl-friendly comic shop in my town, where I don't get perved on all "omg, you have girl parts" by some sweaty basement dwelling fanboy when I walk into the store. Most comic shops aren't like that, the whole damn internet isn't like that. I love LOVE *LOVE* that fandom is a place where me being a nerd isn't some performative fetish for boy nerds. Where I'm a nerd, not a girl nerd.

Um, sorry, I got ranty there. But yes: OTW FTMFW. I am totally giving them some money when I get my tax return.

EXACTLY YES YAY. To be honest, I'm not against deploying this from time to time in real life (hello, you handsome bespectacled creature! Would you like to discuss.... G'Kar?) but it's so nice to have a place where my geekery is NOT ABOUT THEM, because it's not, and it never has been.

I'm sorry, I'm going to internet-hug you now. ::hugs::

*internet hugs you right back*

(I am also not above deploying this as a flirting technique sometimes. Because if I *can* successfully flirt using Star Wars lines? That is probably someone I WANT to be flirting with!)

But YES: my geekery, it is FOR ME! (Well, and all my girl nerd internet friends. Whee!)

(Plus I like that I can use this icon.*g*)
