and may I say, that was delightful. I managed to pretty nearly suspend my disbelief (and suppress the awareness that Rygel is totally in future episodes, he can't really get vivisected) and really worry about John! having to leave his planet! Becoming adrift and rejected by his people like the rest of them! It would be so sad!
While I rather despised the social-darwinist slant put on the end of the episode, I did like seeing humans taken to task for once over their fictional treatment of fictional aliens. There was none of this "we have their best intentions in miiiiiind" whining that you get on SGA, just a straight-up excoriation of them for being jerks, and that was a relief.
Though simultaneously, the mindfuck aliens are taking their view of the world from Crichton alone, and isn't it somewhat possible that this vision of Earth where no one understands and everyone's cold and backstabbing and alien-vivisecting except John and his father has more to do with Johnny C. being kind of messed up in the head than Earth itself? In my head, the life choices Chrichton has made make a lot of sense for someone who views himself, on some level, as being the Only Good Human. I'm not saying humans would actually be that nice to the Metapod aliens, but the Chrichton-is-messed-up theory seems to be pretty consistently supported.
On the level of shippiness (which, wow, I haven't had occasion to say that and not 'slashiness' since the X-files in middle school) - apparently that really was Aeryn Sun, and they did have virtual reality brainsex, which, I hope the next episode has some followup on that. Still, I really preferred the bit where John and Aeryn were just sitting with their shoulders touching in their soldier undershirts. I was kind of disappointed when the moment turned romantical. I did, however, like when Aeryn completely brushed him off the next morning because she had survivalism on her mind. All, no, really, we don't need to talk about it right now. That was pretty <3
