(no subject)

This is not so much a rec (though please, take it as one) as it is just a massive statement of fannish enthusiasm: Edge of Forever by

synecdochic and

sarahq is pretty much rocking my world this morning. I'm hoping there will be more of it. It's an SGA AU where the authors take the canon we all know and love(/sometimes hate a little) and rewrite it so that, essentially, people are sensible. And they pursue "cut off from earth" to the interesting conclusions. Good lord, I love worldbuilding experiments. (And as I may have previously stated I have a real soft spot for post-civilization logistics).

Also, successfully pimped Slings and Arrows to caffieninni yesterday. Now I can go back to Universityville happy.
ETA: Today she actually said "Oh my god I love Paul Gross!" This is a new record for sibling fandom transmission.

Hello, SGA, by

merryish. (SGA) This is more angsty and beautiful than sad, and very compelling. I'd consider this the basic primer to angsty!doomed!Sheppard circa season 1. And frankly, that's still my favorite Sheppard.

Out Here by

heresluck. (Due South) When I first watched this, I'd just seen Call of the Wild for the first time, and I left the world's sniffliest comment on heresluck's livejournal. And she replied "But it ends happily! See? They're in love!". And then I went their love is so beautiful and got more kleenex.

On a technical level, consider that Due South is essentially seventy hours of talky-face, and then observe how much emotion heresluck has wrung out of those scenes. Some day I want to be able to do things like that.

You've got to read the story by

synecdochic first (I figure everyone's read the story, but there might be some stragglers). This is the one that honest-to-god woke me up at three a.m. I was shaky and cold in the middle for days after reading / watching this, and that, I call art.

Oh my god I love this vid. It's a very dark Faith character study with Great Big Angst. This feels like an argument vid to me: it goes places with the character that aren't spelled out in the canon, but that fall into place beautifully.

astolat I tried for five vids by five different people, but here's an extra, because this is damn good. I was already following SGA when I first saw this vid, but I think it was here that I really fell in love with McShep. Astolat really brings the OTP, doesn't she?
