Also, I'm caught up on Who (discussion through Blink, kind of whiny.) )

In conclusion, I miss Rose. Can you tell?

But that aside, Blink was )

I wish this thing was always written by the same four (good) writers, but I'm sure there's a complicated tv reason why some shows have writing teams and some shows are completely potluck. And speaking of, is Torchwood series 2 really not going to air until 2008? How, how am I supposed to wait that long?

In real life news, today I did yoga and made tamales. Flavors: cinnamon-raisin, blackberry, chocolate, spinach curry, pizza, and black bean. I haven't got the dough consistancy quite right, but I am still well-pleased.

I am wondering if I should count watching seven episodes of Dr. Who as a big accomplishment - it's not like it was painful - but given my gnat-sized attention span this week, I'm going to go ahead and say: yay! Check that off the list!

And also, oh my GOD I love Nine and Rose. I am trying to block all awareness that their love is not eternal from my mind. Seriously, I don't know what it is, but somewhere between Christopher Eccleston's enormous ears and Billie Piper's metric ton of eyeliner there is love in my soul. I spend half of every episode just smishing them. I don't know what it is about their dynamic (mini-picspam, 1x05, 1x07) ).

Is it just that I started paying attention to this sort of thing, or is Dr. Who (at least S1 to episode 8) really beautifully filmed? Because I was playing with screencaps, and seriously, so many shots were so well-composited that it felt like someone had drawn them.

I'm up to 1x09, The Empty Child, and yeah. )

I am also enjoying that I am part of a long tradition of people who are really, really curious about how Time Lords reproduce.

ETA: Re: The Doctor Dances: Really? Did a particular OT3 just enter the canon in a big camera-fades-out sort of way? Because y'all were telling me it was canon, and I was not believing you, which shows what I know.

[livejournal.com profile] gerbal and I went to Hometown Comic Book Store yesterday and loaded up on Buffy Season 8 and the Serenity Comic. I am not big on comic books - I'm just not that visual - but man I am glad I made the leap.

Because of the vaguely spoilery things! )
And here's where the spoilers get specific )

I have never been a comics nerd before! I am enjoying it.

Also, it's interesting how different a character and an actor can be, isn't it? I was never all that into Sarah Michelle Gellar, but the Season 8 vol I cover art makes my heterosexuality crumble a bit. Oh, Sunnydale people. I missed you.

ETA: Also, while I've seized control of an internet connection: vid rec! Set Fire to the Third Bar by [livejournal.com profile] sol_se. (Torchwood, Jack/Ianto). I am not particularly into either this song or this pairing right now, and I still love the pants off this video. Sol_se does some really cool things with timing, and makes connections that are surprising and interesting. I know the whole TW fandom has seen every frame of S1 Jack/Ianto footage a thousand times, but she still manages to do new things with it.

Six inches of snow. In April. It happens every year, and every year we're really surprised about it.

I'm supposed to be doing schoolwork. I am. But so far this weekend I've read a lot, and made scrambled tofu (yes, I used to be a vegan, why? Stop looking at me like that!) and gone visiting. I love the rickety old houses around here that only students will live in, where everyone keeps their jackets on indoors and stands around the woodstove until the snow melts off their boots. I'm not sure I'm ready to live like that, though. I like my weatherproofed, centrally-heated dwelling, even if I keep the thermostat at approximately zero.

I did poke around with sourcing for some more vidding. I have about thirty seconds of interesting narration in my head, but the rest of the song isn't working, so I think I'm going to ditch it. Also, I'm not sure yet if I can vid Tosh at all, because have you seen how she runs in the first two episodes? For some reason, it quite bothers me. Is it just a crosscultural miscommunication, or does she really have an annoying run?

Yes, I'm judgey, and maybe losing at Reclaiming Female Characters.

Happy Easter for Easter-celebrators! I slept through church. I never sleep through church! Jesus might have risen, but I hit the snooze button. Oh well.

The tv in the internet lounge is playing SG-1. Clearly the television gods don't want me to get any homework done. I have no clue what is going on, but I will concede there are a lot of pretty people. Fighting aliens? Maybe?

I actually have to do schoolwork the next couple of weeks, even though a part of me wants to vid more right now. It's probably for the best that I put it off, because I'm actually not very musical and will quickly run out of songs I like well enough to listen to them the requisite five hundred times. (Have I mentioned how I accidentally ended up with a half-empty schedule this semester? I spend more time exercising than I do in class. And more time reading fanfiction than those two added together, to the fifth power.)

I have some vid ideas right now, but they ) aren't my favoritest. It seems best to jot them down, though. I might change my mind?

Dear internet: I need new, viddable music! After finals, I guess?

Also. ::flails vaguely at word processor.:: Dear story: resolve yourself! I really want to get the thing posted before finals start up. It's out for betaing right now, but I keep having to talk myself out of rewriting the whole thing, again. Yes, again. My beta, she is a saint.

1) "we're not straight we just love each other" was brought up (by me) in this here comments thread,
2) I sort of frivolously posted that link in a very interesting conversation about WNG in Buffy femslash
3) And then my link tracker indicated that people were actually clicking through, and I went "there's not really content in those comments!" and felt bad.
4) I wrote a more extensive comment on the thread, it was tl;dr and spoilery, and I thought to myself, self, maybe that had better be a post of its own too.

Some thoughts on WNG/WNS and Gwen/Jack )

Plenty of Torchwood spoilers, of course.

I am _never_ doing this again.

*already planning next project*

Title: Backdrifters
Song: "Backdrifts (The Honeymoon is Over)" by Radiohead
Vidder: [livejournal.com profile] sapote3
Fandom: Torchwood
Rating/Warnings: Let's say R for violence and makeouts. Slash, het, potentially third-catagory aliens.
Summary: Angsty everybody/everybody, hopefully Gwen's POV.

password: brink

Technical notes, this-is-my-first-vid apologies, notes on the song )

All comments and concrit welcome.

ETA: No matter how much I nag her she won't get an lj, so I'm going to go ahead and give the lovely and talented caffieninni credit for some early betawatching and also for enduring two months of nonstop vid talk. And for being the only Gwen/Owen shipper I know.

ETA2: April 01: New yousendit link!

Yes I should be asleep (four hours of Bulgarian opera: Culture makes me tired.) but I finally finished Torchwood ep 12. And yes, it is pretty much the awesomest 45 minutes of television ever. Even given that I've seen the dancing clip a bazillion times thanks to Youtube - I don't think there's any way to be too spoilered to love this episode.

Torchwood e10: Out of Time ) Also some Torchwood-specific stabs at meta. )

Sigh. I need to finish Series 1 fast so I can go looking for fanfic.

Torchwood episode four chatter )

I made me an icon! It's not an original or particularly good image choice, but it's the first time I've played with gaussian blur -> shrink -> sharpen. Since I have zero visual arts skills I'm a little excessively proud of myself.

Also, I wrote porn. And I posted it to the porn battle. And then I panicked and didn't look at the page or check my email for three days, because this is the first time I've publicly posted anything NC-17 and I couldn't get over the feeling that the entire universe had seen my brain naked. But I'm over it now, mostly. (Buffy/Faith, explicit, not big on the character development.)

It is snowing _again_. There's a fair chance my evening classes are going to be cancelled, which would really fubar the syllabus, but on the other hand it would give me some more time to finish La guerra florida. I know I'm supposed to be learning something about the savage underpinnings of human nature but mostly I'm just giving my Spanish/English dictionary a workout. It makes me remember how much I hated being illiterate in English, back when I was wee.
